Among the Western European countries Germany is the leading market both as a furniture consumer and as a furniture importer, providing and absorbing about 22% each of the WE demand and of total WE imports. After the decline in home furniture consumption experienced in 2013, during the last four years the German market recorded a significant growth, although easing in 2016-2017. The major difference between Germany and the other European countries is the importance of buying groups, which lead the furniture distribution scene. Since 2014 major changes occurred in the landscape of major groups. In 2014 Küchen Aktuell left Atlas. In 2015 XXXLutz left Begros and funded with Zurbrüggen and Pforzheim the Giga Buying Group. In 2017 VME and Union agreed to merge gradually over the next 3 years...
